When the Children of Israel were oppressed and driven from their homes, they asked for a commander who would lead them in battle. Allah appointed Saul (Talut) as their king, but many rejected him because of his lack of wealth or lineage. Yet true merit lies in knowledge and faith. Saul was granted both knowledge and physical strength. Allah entrusted him with a heavy test that would expose both his people and their hearts. On the other side stood the tyrant commander Goliath (Calut) and his massive army.
