Badr was the first major battle in which a small group of believers—weak in numbers and equipment—faced an army three times larger. The Muslims of Medina had originally set out not for war but for a caravan; yet destiny brought them to the wells of Badr, the turning point of history. On one side stood the Quraysh, who had oppressed the believers for years; on the other were 313 Muslims, most without armor, with few weapons, but with hearts full of faith. At that moment, their Lord would aid them with unseen hosts.
