Bilal ibn Rabah was a young Abyssinian slave living in Mecca—mocked for his skin, his foreign tongue, and his status, yet Allah had placed a great light in his heart. His master, Umayyah ibn Khalaf, was among the harshest polytheists of Quraysh. To him, Bilal was nothing more than a servant who obeyed orders. But in the earliest days of Islam, when the Prophet’s call to tawhid spread quietly from heart to heart, Bilal was among those who listened. Once the words *“Allah is One, and Muhammad is His Messenger”* settled into his heart, no chain could return him to the darkness he had left behind. His body was enslaved, but his heart became free the moment he embraced tawhid.
