Balaam was a scholar whom Allah had granted special knowledge and deep understanding. His prayers were known to be accepted. The Qur’an describes him as someone to whom Allah gave His signs, but who deliberately cast them aside. He was not ignorant of the truth; he knew it clearly, yet chose to follow his desires instead. Within his people, he held a respected position, and his influence eventually became a test for his heart. When worldly gain, status, and people’s approval began to outweigh Allah’s pleasure, he looked for ways to twist the truth he once carried.
