Lady Aisha, the wife of the Messenger of Allah and a mother of the believers, was a source of knowledge for the entire ummah. In Madinah, the fire of hypocrisy had not yet died; the hypocrites were always looking for opportunities. During the return from one of the expeditions, a minor delay was exaggerated and turned into a major slander. The hypocrites targeted the honor of Lady Aisha, hoping to damage the Prophet’s household. Revelation paused for a time, whispers spread throughout the city, and the Prophet’s home became a place of tears, patience, and prayer. Finally, verses from Surah An-Nur were revealed, declaring Aisha’s innocence and laying down eternal rulings regarding slander.
