The Event of the Elephant and the Miraculous Protection of the Kaaba

The year you know as the “Year of the Elephant” was, in truth, a momentous time that shaped the destiny of Mecca and the Kaaba. Abraha, who ruled in Yemen, grew resentful as people continually flocked to the Kaaba. He could not endure the hearts turning toward Mecca and wished to replace it with a grand church he had built. At the end of that year, Allah Most High protected the Kaaba in a miraculous way, and that same year became known as the birth year of Muhammad (peace be upon him), who would come as a mercy to all humanity.
